The jury read the verdict for first-degree murder defendant Darries Sommerville in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton on Oct. 27.
Sommerville, 29, represented by defense attorney Natalie Finegar, was convicted of first-degree murder, using a firearm in a violent crime, possessing a firearm with a felony conviction and having a handgun on his person in connection to a July 30, 2022, incident.
During closing statements, the defense questioned whether there was a valid motive for the crime and the fact that surveillance video did not show the incident itself. The prosecution pointed to the fact that only Sommerville had been in the area when Williams was killed.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Sommerville was convicted for the murder of Trevon Williams. Williams, 29, was shot in the head on the 3500 block of Mannasota Avenue. A Baltimore Police Department officer responded and found Williams on the scene. Sommerville was identified as a suspect by security camera footage.
