Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin found Gold Leroy Bass Jr., 74, compliant during a mental observation hearing on March 5.
As previously reported, Bass was convicted of first-degree murder and using a handgun in a crime of violence in 1973 for the fatal shooting of Harry McGee, 31, and Nathaniel Sheppard, 27.
Bass’ case was reopened and scheduled for a retrial when concerns about his competency arose.
Baltimore Witness previously reported that Bass suffered a heart attack and stroke that interfered with his ability to understand and communicate with his defense attorney.
Bass was released on his own recognizance in 2021. His pre-trial agent is required to make a monthly report to mental health court on the first Wednesday of every month.
Bass’ agent will file another report following a mental health hearing on April 2.
