Eastern Avenue Shooter’s Arraignment Pushed Until Defense Attorney is Assigned

The arraignment of homicide defendant Jose Flamenco-Reyes was postponed on July 20 to when the Office of the Public Defender is expected to provide the defendant with an attorney.

The 36-year-old defendant was scheduled to appear before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn on Thursday for a formal reading of the charges against in for the murder of 27-year-old Jeremy Maldonado and the non-fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man.

Flamenco-Reyes is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and having an unregistered rifle/shotgun in connection to the incident on June 3.

Judge Phinn informed that court that she spoke with defense attorney Gregory Fischer at the public defender’s office and was informed that Flamenco-Reyes will have an assigned attorney when he returns for his arraignment on July 24.

According to a press release from the Baltimore Police Department, Flamenco-Reyes and Maldonado were having a dispute on the 5900 block of Eastern Avenue where the former fatally shot the victim around 4:24 p.m. Patrol officers heard the gunshots and responded to the scene where they found Maldonado, who was taken to a nearby hospital.

Maldonado was pronounced dead later that day, while the second victim was treated for his injuries.
