Two defendants pleaded guilty to assault and a weapons charge for 15-year sentences on Aug. 26 in connection to a shooting near Baltimore City’s Lexington Market last December.

Deontrey McDaniel, 28, and Deasia Wilson, 27, were initially facing attempted murder charges for the incident on Dec. 9, 2023. According to the prosecution, McDaniel was driving a moped as Wilson, who was sitting behind him, fired multiple shots at a crowded bus stop on West Lexington Street.

The duo appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller on Monday when they both pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony or violent crime. Each defendant was sentenced to 40 years, suspending all but 15 years, the first five years without parole, and five years of supervised probation. Under the terms of the plea, the defendants are required to register as gun offenders.

McDaniel also pleaded guilty to firearm possession with a felony conviction in a separate case and was sentenced to a concurrent five years.

The prosecutor told Judge Geller that Baltimore Police Department officers were called to Lexington Market after three gunshots were reported near the 200 block of North Eutaw Street. The victim was shot on the right side of his head, but survived his injuries.

McDaniel and Wilson were both represented by defense attorney Karyn Meriwether during Monday’s proceedings. Meriwether stood in for McDaniel’s attorney, Natalie Finegar, who was in an unrelated trial.
