Double Homicide Trial Postponed Again For Scheduling, Weather Issues

A double homicide trial was postponed on Jan. 23 amid weather concerns over a large pending snow storm and the absence of a full-time prosecuting attorney.

The defendant, Lamonte Sherman, 30, was arrested on Dec. 3, 2023 after two men, Phillip Brown and Michael Saffold, both 28, were declared dead after suffering from gunshot wounds. Two witnesses identified Sherman as the shooter on the 3600 block of Greenmount Avenue.

Sherman now faces two counts of first-degree murder and four felony charges for illegal firearm use.

For the current hearing, a stand-in prosecuting attorney offered the defendant a plea deal of a life sentence for his first two charges, and a concurrent 20 years for two counts of firearm use in a felony crime of violence. The defendant rejected the deal and opted for a jury trial.

The trial has been rescheduled to Jan. 26 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones
