Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland agreed to postpone a jury trial for attempted homicide defendant Corey Coleman after defense counsel requested further time to review new evidence on March 6.
Coleman is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless endangerment, as well as five weapons charges in connection to an August 2024 shooting incident.
On Aug. 7, 2024, Northern District officers were in the vicinity of the 500 block of East 33rd Street when they heard gunfire. Officers discovered 13 9mm shell casings at the northeast corner of the intersection of East 32nd Street and Greenmount Avenue.
Officers also recovered several .40-caliber shell casings from inside a white Mercedes-Benz at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was present and stated that they had been involved in a gunfight at the location.
Surveillance footage captured a man, later identified as Coleman, driving the Mercedes-Benz southbound down Greenmount Avenue.
Coleman’s defense attorney, Gabrielle Fortuanto, requested the postponement after receiving new video evidence that would bolster her client’s case.
Judge Copeland reset Coleman’s trial date for April 1.
