Battling Attorneys presented opening statements on Aug. 5 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence P. Fletcher-Hill in a Pulaski Street shooting allegedly committed by Absolon Castillo-Martinez, 27 on Aug 5.
Castillo-Martinez is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and firearm use in a felony/violent crime.
On July 31, 2025, accquired CCTV footage observed a male suspect walking up and down Pulaski Street. The two victims parked their car outside of an Eagle Mart nearby. The suspect, said to be Castillo-Martinez, then reached into a backpack on his chest and fired several rounds at the victim’s vehicle, then fled across the highway.
During opening statements the prosecution said surveillance footage and police testimony allegedly identify the shooter as the defendant.
Defense attorney Lawrence Rosenberg told the jury that the victims told police the shooter was someone else, not Castillo-Martinez. Then he questioned why the victims aren’t called as state witnesses?
On Aug. 1, 2025, Baltimore City Police Officers created a “Seeking to Identify” flyer, and another investigator identified the suspect as Castillo-Martinez. However, the victims of the shooting, as Rosenberg said, identified two other people as the shooters, not Castillo-Martinez.
The trial continues on Aug 6.
