Defense Questions Investigation in Fells Point Double Shooting Trial

Testimonycontinued on March 26 in the trial of 20‑year‑old Anthony Berry, who is accused of a 2024 double shooting outside a Krispy Krunchy Chicken restaurant in Fells Point.

Berry is charged with four counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and three gun violations in connection to the shooting, which occurred Feb. 18, 2024 on the 400 block of S. Broadway.

The day prior, during opening remarks before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge LaZette C. Ringgold‑Kirksey, the state’s attorney told jurors that surveillance footage, phone data and text messages place the defendant near the scene at the time of the shooting. She alleged he approached the two victims in an alley near the restaurant and opened fire before fleeing the area.

Eight months later, detectives executed a search warrant at Berry’s residence, where they recovered a watch similar to the one worn by the suspect in Krispy Krunchy Chicken surveillance footage. On the stand, the detective acknowledged he wasn’t wearing gloves when he collected the watch and admitted he also neglected to package and separately seal the item for processing.

Defense attorney Natalie Finegar argued this could contaminate the evidence, while prosecutors noted the watch was placed inside a seizure box along with multiple other items found inside the home.

Another detective testified that during a recorded interview he confronted Berry with surveillance footage, phone location data and text message records that investigators believed connected him to the shooting. He also referenced messages suggesting Berry attempted to trade away his firearm shortly after the incident.

Finegar countered that the detective could not personally identify anyone in the surveillance footage and noted that no shoes matching the shooter’s description were found in the defendant’s home. She argued that the state was relying on assumptions rather than definitive proof.

The trial is set to continue March 27 with additional witness testimony.
