Defense Attorney Requests More Time to Prepare in Frankford Avenue Non-Fatal Shooting Retrial

On June 12, a defense attorney requested more time to prepare for retrial after the original attorney struck his appearance in a 2021 attempted murder case.

Attorney Roya Hanna informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn that she took over the defense a week before after attorney Andre Mahasa struck his appearance in the case against 29-year-old Donte Price.

Hanna requested that the trial span four days; the prosecution and defense agreed on Oct. 10 for Price’s retrial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin P. Welch.

According to the statement of charges from the District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City, Price is accused of shooting his friend four times over $300 as the man sat in his car on the 5300 block of Frankford Avenue on April 22, 2021. The victim managed to drive himself to Bayview Hospital for treatment. Police obtained video footage, witness statements and other relevant information leading to the positive identification of the shooter as Price.

In January, Price was tried and found guilty of attempted second-degree murder for this incident, but there was a mistrial declared for attempted first-degree murder. Now, he is being retried for this charge.
