Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yvette M. Bryant sentenced Nadeem Tajdin, 49, to 15 years on May 7. Tajdin’s full term is 25 years in prison, suspending all but 15, with five years supervised probation and no parole eligibility until is sentence is half-completed, meaning he could face the maximum 25 years if he violates probation upon release.
The sentence was imposed after a jury found Tajdin guilty of first-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, reckless endangerment, and related firearm violations in connection to a shooting that occurred March 6, 2023, at Mike Corner Store in the 3700 block of Edmonson Avenue.
The incident began when the two sisters, then ages 16 and 19, entered the store with two men to purchase snacks and cigars. Tajdin told the court he and his son asked the group to complete their purchases quickly as the store was nearing closing time.
One of the sisters then called his son a “dummy,” a term Tajdin said offended him. Surveillance footage from inside the store captured the interaction, which transpired through a Plexiglass divider at the storefront counter. Following an apparent verbal altercation, Tajdin was seen entering the back of the store, producing a shotgun, and firing it through the divider in the sisters’ direction. One of the girls was injured in the gunfire.
Defense attorney Rodney Gray tried to contest Tajdin’s detention, claiming his client suffers from several illnesses. Tajdin collapsed in court Jan. 8, the initial scheduled date for his sentencing. Despite Gray’s requests, Judge Bryant found the correctional facilities’ offered treatment sufficient to accommodate Tajdin’s conditions.
