Defendant in Road Rage Non-Fatal Shooting Found Competent to Stand Trial

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin agreed with the opinion of the Maryland Department of Health that a Baltimore City defendant was competent to stand trial on Feb. 8.

Defendant Marlon Veney and his attorney Karyn Meriwether appeared in court on Wednesday to face charges of possessing a rifle or shotgun with a felony conviction, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, discharging firearms, illegal possession of ammunition, and two counts of a traffic violation in connection to an incident on Jan. 15, 2022.

The defense and prosecution submitted to the opinion that Veney, 29, is competent to stand trial.

On the day of the incident, authorities were called to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Waterview Avenue and Annapolis Road, according to court documents. One of the drivers in the collision, allegedly Veney, was said to have exited the vehicle and fired a gun toward oncoming traffic.

Judge Rasin scheduled Veney to appear before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn in reception court on May 16 to pick a date for trial.
