Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul E. Alpert presided in the case of Maurice Jones, 29, as he pleaded not guilty to murder and began jury selection on July 7.
Jones is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person and in a vehicle, having a loaded handgun on his person and in a vehicle and two counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction.
According to charging documents, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded to the 1200 block of McCulloh Street where a 2006 Acura MDX crashed into another vehicle on the curb. The driver was found slumped over the center console with a gunshot wound to his head
He was later identified as Montez Barrett, 23.
Medical responders tried to revive the victim, but Barret was pronounced dead. An autopsy confirmed he died in a homicide from the gunshot wound.
Witnesses allegedly identified Jones as the shooter, while surveillance camera footage and physical evidence are expected to be presented at trial.
Judge Alpert and counsel agreed to select a jury on Monday and begin opening statements on July 8.
