A 24-year-old woman pleaded guilty Oct. 15 for failing to return to the scene during a car collision that killed a woman.
Tanee Dorothy Stokes hit 57-year-old Juanita Watson with her car on June 6, 2020, near the 5200 block of Park Heights Avenue. According to the prosecution, after hitting Watson, Stokes ran from the scene and failed to help Watson, which ultimately led to Watson’s death.
The prosecution offered a deal of five years, suspending all, and Stokes would have to stay away from drugs and alcohol for 18 months.
However, StokesDefense attorney Jason Rodriguez told Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn S. Mays that even though the defendant was pleading guilty, the terms of the plea needed to change.
Rodriguez and the prosecutor are currently negotiating different terms for the deal.
Stokes’ sentencing is set to take place in January 2025.
