A Baltimore man who admitted to fatally shooting a 49-year-old man on Greenmount Avenue last fall is facing decades in prison after pleading guilty to murder and a related firearm charge.
Nasya K. Duvall, 26, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence during a hearing in Baltimore City Circuit Court. Prosecutors recommended a sentence of life, suspending all but 45 to 55 years.
According to the state’s proffer of facts, the victim, 49-year-old Dion Huff, was walking on the 2500 block of Greenmount Avenue around 4 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2024, when Duvall approached him from behind and shot him once in the back of the head. Responding Northern District officers found Huff unresponsive and transported him to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where medical staff reported he was in critical condition with “significant neurological complications.”
Huff was intubated and showed no brain activity in the days that followed. He died on Oct. 5 at approximately 3:05 p.m. His death was ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Prosecutors said CCTV footage clearly captured the shooting, showing Duvall walking up behind Huff, producing a firearm, and firing a single round. A detective reviewing the footage recognized Duvall from prior arrests. Investigators also learned that Duvall was wearing a GPS monitor through parole and probation, and location data from the device placed him at the scene at the time of the shooting.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Duvall on Sept. 30 for attempted first-degree murder and related charges, which were later upgraded following Huff’s death.
In court, Duvall’s attorney noted his client had experienced ongoing issues with a previous lawyer and was “somewhat satisfied” with his current attorney, Justin Hollimon. Duvall accepted the plea agreement after consultation with counsel.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 27.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B Schiffer presided over the hearing.
