In a bench trial on Jan. 13, James Stackhouse, 38, was exonerated of four firearm-related charges in connection to a self-inflicted wound to the genitals.

Stackhouse was charged with firing and discharging a firearm, having a handgun on his person, firearm possession with a felony conviction and illegal possession of ammunition. No firearms were recovered.

Stackhouse’s inconsistent recollection of events raised doubts about whether someone else shot him, particularly following his alleged confession to the Baltimore Police while hospitalized.

Defense attorney Andre Mahasa argued that Stackhouse’s alleged confession was rendered in a stressful moment. Mahasa emphasized that his client mentioned another person as the shooter in both his initial police report and later court appearance.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kimberly McBride ruled in favor of the defense.
