On July 5, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin signed an order for an extended competency evaluation for defendant Daykai Quarles.
According to a report from Baltimore Circuit Court Medical dated June 29, Quarles, 22, is incompetent to stand trial and is a danger to himself, property, and others.
In connection with an incident that occurred on Aug. 8, 2022, Quarles is being charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, discharging firearms, assault in the first degree, and reckless endangerment.
According to the statement of charges, Quarles shot a gun from a second-story window at the victim after an argument broke out between his father and the victim on the 4400 block of Elderon Avenue.
Judge Rasin signed an order of commitment for Quarles and scheduled a six month status hearing for Jan. 3, 2024.
