On Nov. 6, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles H. Dorsey III presided as the jury foreperson read read out a guilty verdict in a teen homicide case.
Tavon Battle, 36, represented by Jason Silverstein, is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, attempted first-degree murder, four counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction and having a handgun on his person in connection to the Nov. 7, 2022, death of 13-year-old Kelsey Washington on the 1400 block of East Fayette Street.
On Monday, the jury rendered a verdict of guilty for first-degree murder, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime and having a handgun on his person.
The jury rendered a verdict of not guilty for attempted first-degree murder.
Three counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction were not sent to the jury.
On Nov. 7, 2022, the defendant was riding a bicycle and approached a parked car at a gas station on the 1400 block of East Fayette Street in which one of the victims was sitting. Battle looked inside the car and began to shoot at that victim, but also shot over the car, hitting Washington in the head.
Battle’s sentencing is on Feb. 6, 2024, before Judge Dorsey.
