On Oct. 25, a defendant charged in 2022 non-fatal shooting at the Carroll Park Golf Course pled guilty to two weapons charges and will be sentenced next month.

George Thomas, 32, was charged with carrying a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, an assault weapon roster violation, possessing a detachable magazine over 10 rounds, two counts of discharging a firearm and possessing a handgun within 100 yards of a park stemming from an incident on Nov. 25, 2022

In return for a guilty plea for carrying a loaded handgun on his person, the prosecution offered three years, suspending all but 15 months. For having a handgun on his person, they offered three years of supervised probation. Thomas will also be required to register as a gun offender upon release. Moreover, in return for the 15 month sentence, the prosecution dropped the remaining charges and dismissed another case.

Defense attorney Donald C. Wright and the prosecution agreed Thomas should receive credit for time served based on his near completion of a firearm safety course and a successful probation for a prior offense.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton was slated to oversee the trial, but the case was moved to a larger courtroom where Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Stephen J. Sfekas accepted the plea.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Thomas was arrested with several weapons in his possession after shots were fired at the Carroll Park Golf Course. After being spotted by Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers, Thomas ran toward nearby train tracks until police arrested him.
