On May 4, during a reception court hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn, a defendant accepted a plea deal in order to have the new charges he was facing run concurrent to the sentence he is currently serving.

The prosecutor assigned to the case offered the defendant, Levar Brown, 20 years, suspending all but seven years with five years supervised probation for first-degree assault and a concurrent 20 years, suspending all but seven years, the first five without the possibility of parole and five years supervised probation for the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime.

Brown, 32, will receive a credit to his sentence dating back to Aug. 10, 2022, and is required to stay away from the victim and the scene of the incident.

Brown and his attorney Eric Berman accepted the plea.

According to the statement of charges, on July 19, 2022, officers were called to a local hospital for a gunshot wound victim. The victim was later identified as Brown. Brown told police that he was getting a burger with a woman when an argument started nearby, and guns were fired, leaving Brown struck as he fled the scene. Police told Brown his belongings would be entered as evidence which led to Brown leaving the hospital against the advice of the hospital.

Later, after reviewing the video, police discovered that around 1:24 p.m. on the 100 block of South Broadway, Brown had gotten into an argument with an unknown male. Brown then took out a gun and fired first at the unknown male and then fled the scene. The unknown male returned fire and struck Brown in the left thigh as he was fleeing.

Brown was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime and discharging firearms.
