Defendant Accepts Guilt, Apologizes to Son for Fatally Stabbing Mother

A Baltimore man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder on Dec. 5, accepting a sentence of 60 years, suspending all but 25, for his involvement in a 2020 stabbing that left 37-year-old Theatra Bowman dead and her 19-year-old son injured.

Marvin Vaughn, 47, faces two consecutive 30-year sentences for the two charges he pleaded guilty to, with an aggregate suspension of 25 years. Following completion of his sentence, he will be required to serve five years of supervised probation and stay away from Bowman’s son and family.

Charging documents state that the fatal double stabbing occurred during the early morning hours of Jan 2. 2020. At around 2:20 a.m., officers were called to the 3500 block of Chesterfield Avenue, where they discovered the victims suffering from stab wounds. Both victims were taken to Bayview Hospital, where Bowman was pronounced deceased.

During the hearing, Bowman’s son delivered a victim impact statement before the court, describing his losses in the wake of his mother’s death.

“I have nobody,” he said. “You took my mom away from me.”

When it was Vaughn’s turn to speak, he responded, “I wish that incident never occured.”

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller presided over the plea hearing.

No further hearings are scheduled in this matter.
