Jermal Lundy, 25, stood before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on June 11, requesting a postponement to allow more time for evidence to be reviewed.

Lundy is charged with prohibited firearm possession in relation to the Nov. 9, 2024, murder of Ira Truman Linton, Jr., 46, in the 4200 block of Powell Avenue.

Lundy waived his rights to a jury trial and expressed his wish for an open plea.

Complications appeared after Lundy made efforts to plead guilty but explained he felt uncomfortable and unprepared to proceed, since he had not received the paperwork evidence in the mail.

Defense attorney Natalie Finegar only became aware of this issue during the hearing, as it had not been previously discussed with Lundy.

Judge Copeland denied the postponement request and forwarded the case to Judge Nicole K. Barmore for sentencing.

At the time of the incident, Lundy was already prohibited from possessing a firearm due to previous felony convictions from several separate crimes. Despite Lundy’s apology and expression of regret in court, Judge Barmore stated the mandatory minimum sentence is appropriate, given his violent history.

Lundy was ultimately sentenced to five years without the possibility of parole.
