Convicted Homicide Defendant Given Positive Feedback During Hearing

On Oct. 27, a convicted homicide defendant was given positive reviews during his collateral hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby.

Woodrow Vines was convicted on Aug. 27, 1991, of first-degree murder, handgun use in committing a crime, and having a handgun on his person.

Defense counsel Deborah Levi informed the court that Vines, 55, has completed his sobriety program and is enrolled in CDL classes. She also mentioned that Vines was in a stable relationship with a woman who pushed him in a good direction.

She disclosed that he was recently laid off from his job but is currently in school for his counseling license.

Levi asked the court if her client could be on unsupervised probation so that he could undergo needed mental health treatment.

Judge Ausby ruled that she would allow the defendant to be on unsupervised probation if his probation program allowed.

Given the opportunity to address the court, Vines said, “I’m doing everything possible to succeed. I just had a job interview this morning for a driver at a warehouse, but I am unsure if I got it.”

Vines also noted he is trying to stay positive and hopes to use his counseling degree to help people.
