Convicted Homicide Defendant Faces More Prison Time After Violating Probation

After serving a 15-year sentence for murder almost two decades ago, a 64-year-old Baltimore man may return to prison after violating his probation.

Anthony Thompson was convicted of second-degree murder in May 2009 for an incident that occurred in September 2004. The defendant was sentenced to 30 years, suspending all but 15 years, and five years of supervised probation.

During a Zoom hearing on Dec. 14, a prosecutor told Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Anthony Vittoria that Thompson was cited for driving under the influence in March, with only six months left of his supervised probation. Thompson received a suspended sentence for the DUI.

“You are backing up 15 years for that [murder] conviction,” the judge told Thompson, who did not have an attorney on Wednesday. “There’s potential that you could get the maximum sentence. I don’t think you will, but I’m certainly not saying you won’t.”

The judge postponed Thompson’s case to Feb. 23, 2023, to give the defendant time to get representation.
