Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a trial date of Oct. 23 for Marquist Peters, 24, after he rejected a plea offer during a July 10 pretrial hearing.
Peters faces charges from three separate cases, including attempted first degree murder, first-degree assault, felony firearm use and reckless endangerment, as well as several conspiracy and firearm violations.
The prosecution offered Peters a plea deal of life, suspending all but 65 years, followed by 15 years of probation. Peters and defense attorney Maureen O’Leary rejected the offer.
Due to the high number of charges included in Peters’ three cases, Judge Copeland agreed to set the trial to last one week, with Judge Barry G. Williams presiding. Proceedings are set to wrap just before Peters’ speedy trial deadline of Nov. 1.
