A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge ordered another competency evaluation in mental health court on July 26 for a defendant who is accused of stabbing his 43-year-old mother.

Allen Jones’ defense attorney, Amanda Savage, ordered his initial competency evaluation following her client’s indictment. Savage was concerned with his ability to aid in his defense for this case. Jones, 26, was hesitant when speaking with her, and his treatment team also cited their concern about how he communicates. More specifically, they noted his low tone, hesitancy, incoherency, and poverty of speech.

Due to the factors listed above, Judge Gale E. Rasin ordered another competency evaluation for Jones.

Jones was previously misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Jones is charged with first-degree murder and possessing a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection to a June 10 incident.

According to Fox45 News, police responded to the 400 block of Lorraine Avenue at approximately 6:33 a.m. for a reported stabbing investigation. They found Jones sitting on the front steps with blood on his hands. When officers asked Jones what happened, he admitted to stabbing his mother, Carla Jones, following a dispute. Officers found her unresponsive inside the home with stab wounds to her torso. She was pronounced dead by medics a short time later.
