Attempted Homicide Case Not Called for Defendant Also Charged with Homicide

An attempted homicide case that was scheduled to be heard March 1 did not occur before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn. The defendant is also being charged with homicide in another case.

In the case that was scheduled, Stephawn Tate, 20, is charged with four counts of attempted first and second-degree murder, four counts of first and second-degree assault, four counts of use of a firearm during a violent crime, conspiracy to armed robbery, three counts of armed robbery, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, having a handgun on his person, and wear/carry a handgun in connection with an incident on Nov. 9, 2020.

Hi co-defendant, James Severance, 59 charges, including attempted murder, assault, firearm use, armed robbery, reckless endangerment, theft and conspiracy.

Severance is scheduled for reception court on May 12, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.

Tate is also being charged with allegedly shooting a man on the 1600 block of West North Avenue on Nov. 13, 2020. According to Maryland case search, Tate is also facing charges for first-degree murder, firearm use during a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, possession of a firearm as a minor and carrying/wearing a handgun on person.

Initially, Tate was offered a plea of life suspending all but 60 years with five years supervised probation for first-degree murder, and 20 years for conspiracy to commit robbery,

Under the plea offer, a third case involving narcotics would be dismissed. However, Tate decided to reject the plea on Aug. 10, 2021.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

According to Maryland’s Judiciary website, Tate’s next hearing for the attempted homicide case is scheduled for March 15. His murder case is scheduled for reception court on Aug. 10.
