Bus Stop Shooter Gets 10 Years in Prison for Armed Robbery

A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty to armed robbery on Dec. 14 for stealing $50 and other belongings at gunpoint last year.

During a plea hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Robert K. Taylor Jr., De’Lass Reid agreed to the prosecution’s plea offer of 13 years, the first 10 years without parole, for armed robbery and a concurrent 13 years, the first five years without parole, for firearm use in a felony or violent crime. Reid is currently serving a 25-year sentence for a 2022 assault in Anne Arundel County, which will run concurrently to his latest plea.

The defendant, who was represented by defense attorney Augustine Okeke, previously faced attempted first and second-degree murder as well as assault, reckless endangerment, theft and weapons charges.

According to court documents, the 53-year-old victim was standing at a bus stop at the intersection of South Broadway and Eastern Avenue on May 17, 2022, when Reid pulled out a handgun and demanded the man’s belongings. When the victim refused, the defendant fired his gun in the air after which the victim handed over his cash, wallet, personal documents and cell phone.

The victim told Baltimore Police Department (BPD) detectives that Reid got into a red car that drove away. The defendant was later identified as the suspect on June 28, 2022, in Prince George’s County where he was arrested for a separate weapons charge.
