A 14-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting a 15-year-old boy is waiting for his juvenile transfer hearing and a motions hearing.
Damonyae Malone, now 15, is charged as an adult with first-degree murder and use of a firearm during a felony crime for the killing of Jaileel Jones. Malone allegedly shot Jones after an argument on the 5100 block of Chalgrove Avenue on March 4, 2021.
On Sept. 29, Malone’s defense attorney, Sasha Garcon, told Judge Melissa Phinn that she had filed a motion for a juvenile transfer hearing and the Department of Juvenile Service is still working on their study.
There is a motions hearing set for Oct. 21, and the case will also return to reception court on Nov. 30 to discuss the juvenile transfer hearing.
During Malone’s bail hearing, Garcon said that he suffers from schizophrenia and ADHD. She also said he has no prior history with the juvenile system and has earned certificates and awards while incarcerated in addition to attending therapy.
Malone said in his bail hearing that he is getting good grades in school and is just trying to get home.
