Bayonne Avenue Killer Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for 2021 Shooting

“There is light at the end of the tunnel if you do the work.”

Homicide defendant Kyree Davis listened to this parting advice from Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller on July 11 when the 24-year-old was sentenced to 30 years for the murder of Shamyar Austin in 2021.

Davis pleaded down from first-degree murder on Tuesday, accepting a plea offer of 40 years, suspending all but 25 years, and five years of supervised probation for second-degree murder and a consecutive 20 years, suspending all but five years without parole, for firearm use in a felony violent crime.

In addition to the aforementioned charges, Davis was also facing having a loaded handgun on his person and having a handgun on his person for the incident on April 11, 2021. Defense attorney Donald Wright represented him.

“I’m sorry for everything,” David said before Judge Geller and those in the gallery. “I hope the families can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”

During the proceeding, the prosecutor reviewed the details of the case, explaining that Baltimore Police Department officers were called to an apartment on the 4800 block of Bayonne Avenue for a reported shooting and found the 22-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Austin’s autopsy revealed that he was shot three times, charging documents state.

Wright told Judge Geller that the defendant continues to have the support of his family, including his mother, who was present during the sentencing.

Judge Geller told Davis that in order to get a reduced sentence, he would have to “do the work” and improve himself.

“The ball will be in your court,” the judge said.
