Baltimore Resident Rejects Plea Offer for Attempted Murder Charge

A 56-year-old Baltimore man accused of attempted murder three years ago rejected a plea offer on Jan. 10 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Schiffer

Charles Hopson is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in a violent crime, two counts of possession of a firearm with felony conviction, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, discharging firearms, and illegal possession of ammo in connection to an incident Jan. 1, 2020. 

On Monday, Judge Schiffer listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of life suspending all but 30 years with five years probation for first-degree attempted murder and five years without parole for use of a firearm in a violent crime. The charges are set to run concurrently. 

Hopson and his defense attorney, Derrick Hamlin, rejected the plea offer. 

According to Baltimore Fox, on Jan. 1, 2020 officers were called to the unit block of South Gay Street for reports of shots being fired, where they found a 42-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. 

Hopson’s trial is scheduled for April 18 with Judge Videtta Brown
