A Baltimore resident facing assault charges pleaded guilty on Jan. 13 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Damon Martin and his defense counsel Marc Minkove, accepted a plea of 10 years, suspending all but time served with five years supervised probation for first-degree assault. The defendant was given credit from Feb. 7, 2022.
Counsels agreed that if the defendant did all that was required of him then a sentence modification would be considered.
Martin, 23, was charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, and discharging a firearm in connection to an incident on Jan. 24, 2022.
According to court documents, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 500 block of N. Kenwood Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert. On arrival, officers found two 9 mm shell casings.
Moments later Eastern District patrol found the victim on the 3000 block of E. Monument Street with a gunshot to his right leg.
The victim was taken to John Hopkins Hospital for treatment.
