Two mass shootings occurred in Baltimore City last month, ending a four-month lull since the city’s last recorded mass shooting in early August.
December saw its first mass shooting on Dec. 6. At approximately 5:39 a.m., officers responded to a Carrollton Ridge home on the 1800 block of McHenry Street, where they located four adults suffering from gunshot wounds.
Leroy Alexander, 56, was pronounced deceased on the scene while Erika Power, 42, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Power died shortly after. A 36-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman also sustained critical injuries, though police have yet to release an update regarding the status of either victim.
Nine days later on Dec. 15, shortly before 11 p.m., a 54-year-old woman was killed and four others were injured in another mass shooting in Belair-Edison neighborhood. An Eastern District officer responded to the scene after hearing gunshots while patrolling Belair Road at Mayfield Avenue.
The surviving victims included four men between the ages of 20 and 31, whose current health status is unknown. The deceased victim’s name has not been released.
Prior to December, the last recorded mass shooting incident was recorded on Aug. 9, in Central Park Heights. At approximately 8:46 p.m., Northern District officers responded to the 5100 block of Queensberry Avenue, where they located six victims, all suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jerome Michael Coateson, 38, was found critically injured, and died the following morning. The surviving victims included a five-year-old girl, a 23-year-old woman and two men, ages 33 and 52. Officers later learned the incident occurred on the 2900 block of Spaulding Avenue.
Police have yet to announce arrests in the three shootings.
