A 22-year-old Baltimore man accused of shooting a 17-year-old during an altercation will proceed to trial in November, nearly one year after the shooting.
Michael McDowell is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder as well as assault and three weapons charges.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, on Nov. 5, 2021, officers were called to the 3600 block of Park Heights Avenue around 11 a.m. when they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police said McDowell and the victim were fighting when the defendant pulled out a gun.
The two struggled over the gun when it fired, police said.
On Friday, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn said that counsel was unavailable to try the case before McDowell’s Hick’s date, which is his right to be tried with 180 days of his or his attorney’s first court appearance.
The prosecution and defense attorney Roland Harris, neither of whom were present during Friday’s proceeding, previously agreed on a trial date of Nov. 2, approximately a month after McDowell’s Hick’s date.
Judge Kendra Y. Ausby will preside over the trial.
