A Baltimore man accused of murder was not offered a plea by the prosecution on April 18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer.
Harrison Barnes, 37, is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, having a handgun in a vehicle, and having a handgun on his person in connection to an incident on Nov. 6, 2021.
During reception court on Monday, Judge Schiffer listened as Barnes’ defense counsel Arthur McGreevy mentioned that he was not provided with a plea offer. He also said that he requested to have additional DNA evidence and phone records in order to get ready for trial.
The prosecutor told the judge he is awaiting approval from the state’s attorney office and the victim’s family.
Barnes’ trial is scheduled for Sept. 19 lasting three days with Judge Melissa K. Copeland presiding.
Barnes has been convicted of several offenses in Anne Arundel County since 2007, including distribution of narcotics, possession of drugs, making a false statement to an officer, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, fourth-degree burglary and violation of probation.
