On March 27, a firearms examiner presented evidence that seemed to link homicide defendant Derrien Gamble to two gun-related incidents from 2023 and 2024.

Gamble is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, and multiple firearm possession charges in a connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on Feb.13, 2023.

The prosecution presented ballistic evidence to the jury and argued that the shell casings, fragments, bullets, and lead recovered from the scene suggested multiple firearms were used – possibly as many as 11. Gamble also faces multiple charges related to a shooting that occurred on Jan 4, 2024, with additional evidence linking the firearms to both incidents.

On Feb. 14, 2024, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) executed a search and seizure warrant at a rented Airbnb, where Gamble was staying at the time. A detective testified that investigators recovered various pieces of evidence during the search, including a phone that was later linked to a call made from Gamble’s jail cell the day after the shooting. Further forensic analysis, including fingerprint and DNA testing, was conducted on the evidence collected from the scene.

Tensions were high in the courtroom when most of the defendant’s family stormed out of the courthouse as the court swore the firearm examiner in to testify.

The trial is set to resume under Judge Levi S. Zaslow. Gamble is represented by James Sweeting III.
