Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled an Aug. 11 retrial for attempted murder defendant Dominick Scarboro, in a hearing on April 17.

On March 21, 2022, a jury found Scarboro guilty of two counts of first degree-assault and one count each of second-degree assault and firearm use during a crime of violence. The Appellate Court of Maryland sent a mandate of appeals to the Baltimore City Circuit Court on Jan. 16, 2024, thus remanding or returning the case for reconsideration.

Scarboro was originally charged with three counts each of attempted first- and second-degree murder and assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a violent crime, repeated telephone calls, malicious destruction of property, and related firearm violations for allegedly shooting his girlfriend’s mother and stepfather at their residence on Sept. 10, 2020.

The shooting followed an argument that arose after Scarboro’s girlfriend learned he allegedly brought a handgun into her mother’s home in the 6200 block of Chinquapin Parkway..

Charging documents state Scarboro left the residence following the argument but returned a few minutes later and repeatedly texted and called his girlfriend, claiming he left his keys in the house. When his girlfriend refused to answer, he began banging on the front door.

His girlfriend’s stepfather responded and attempted to speak with Scarboro, but the conversation reportedly escalated into an argument. Scarboro allegedly retrieved a handgun from his waistband as the stepfather closed and locked the door. Then Scarboro reportedly opened penetrating the door and wounding his girlfriend’s mother and stepfather. He then reportedly fled in his vehicle. Both victims were transported to an area hospital to treat their wounds.

Recovered evidence includes one projectile, one pair of bloody shorts, blood swabs, and crime scene photographs. Scarboro’s girlfriend and one of her parents were able to positively identify Scarboro. The total cost of damages caused by gunfire was estimated to total approximately $1,300.

Scarboro, who is represented by defense attorney Paul Polansky, is set to stand trial for four days before Judge Nicole K. Barmore.
