Counsel delivered closing statements on June 26 in the attempted murder of a victim on the 500 block of N. Curley Street on May 6, 2024. Christopher Boykin, 26, is indicted on 20 charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, robbery, reckless endangerment, and several firearm violations. In dispute–face markings on the suspect.
In their closing statement before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller, the prosecution emphasized footage from two cameras near the site of the shooting.
Surveillance video depicts two individuals exiting a vehicle and walking toward the victim’s home, when they pull down ski masks and one withdraws an object believed to be a firearm. They are later seen fleeing the scene with a backpack that they had not been carrying on arrival. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot in the area.
The victim sustained a wound to the back, permanently confining them to a wheelchair. The prosecution noted that the presence of ski masks and a firearm shows premeditation.
In a previous trial, the victim testified that the shooter possessed a scar above their right eye. Defense attorney Augustine Okeke argued that because Boykin has no such scar, he is innocent of all charges. The prosecution countered by noting that while not a scar, Boykin possesses a tattoo in the exact spot identified by the victim.
The consistency of the mark’s location suggests that Boykin was the shooter, said the prosecution. Additionally, the victim immediately fled, and did not have adequate time to examine the shooter. Therefore, they could not be expected to give a highly accurate description.
The jury is currently deliberating the case.
