Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn approved defense counsel’s request to postpone the murder trial of Montay Brown on June 3. The stated reason was that the defense wasn’t prepared to proceed with the case on the scheduled date. Meanwhile, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office, the prosecution was ready to start on time.
Brown, 20, is charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm use in connection to the May 6 fatal shooting of Garfield Redd, 33, that occurred in the unit block of E. 21st Street.
Judge Phinn reset the trial date to July 28. The proceeding is expected to last four days.
