The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General announced that Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has decided not to file charges in the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on Aug. 5, 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland.
On Aug. 5, 2024, at approximately 9:12 p.m., Baltimore City Police Department officers in unmarked vehicles were patrolling near North Stricker Street and West Fayette Street. Detectives encountered a group, including a juvenile male, in front of a home on North Stricker Street.
As an officer approached, the group dispersed, and the officer noticed the juvenile touching his waistband, suspecting he might be armed. The juvenile fled, prompting a foot chase.
Other officers maneuvered to intercept him. The juvenile, seen holding a firearm, was grabbed by one detective but broke free, raising the firearm towards the two other detectives on the scene. Despite verbal commands to get on the ground, the juvenile did not comply, leading the three detectives to fire their weapons, striking the juvenile multiple times.
The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene, and no officers were injured.
The IID began its investigation the day of the incident, and concluded on June 5. After evaluating all evidence, the Office of the Attorney General determined that the officers did not commit a crime under Maryland law, and thus, no prosecution will occur.
A detailed investigative report and legal analysis are available in the IID’s declination report.
