In the case of 30-year-old Tyrone Epps, a Baltimore City prosecutor dismissed attempted murder charges against the defendant in lieu of a guilty plea in two other cases.
The defendant was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder as well as assault and firearm use in a felony violent crime for an incident on July 5, 2021. However, on Feb. 15, Epps agreed to plead guilty to a first-degree assault that occurred on Feb. 28, 2022, and a second-degree assault of a Baltimore Police officer from April 15, 2022.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John Howard presided over Wednesday’s hearing as the prosecutor informed the court of the agreed-upon plea: 20 years, suspending all but the 360 days time served, and three years probation for first-degree assault, and a concurrent time served of 360 days for the second-degree assault of a police officer.
The plea for first-degree assault also required Epps—who was represented by defense attorney Jason Rodriguez in all three cases—to participate in anger management.
In accordance with these plea agreements, the prosecution agreed to dismiss the aforementioned attempted murder case.
