An attempted murder defendant’s trial was postponed because the victim is recovering from surgery and was unable to testify on May 20.

Kimani Johnson is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, firearm use in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, firearm possession with a felony conviction, having a loaded handgun on his person and discharging a firearm within Baltimore City.

The prosecutor requested a postponement of Johnson’s trial due to the victim’s having surgery the previous day. Defense attorney Roland Harris agreed to the postponement. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby then sent the case back to reception court for a new date.

Once moved to reception court, Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled Johnson’s three-day trial to begin on Aug. 20.

According to District Court of Maryland documents, on June 16, 2023, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of North Mount Street, where they discovered the 38-year-old victim suffering from two gunshot wounds. He told investigators the incident initially occurred on the unit block of North Fulton Avenue when two men asked the victim and a friend, “Do you like to party?” before opening fire. A witness identified Johnson using a photo array.
