Trial was postponed June 5 for attempted murder defendant Quantae Johnson following news that his defense attorney, Koryn High, was facing medical issues.
Johnson was originally scheduled to stand trial the same day before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra M. Ausby, but Judge Melissa M. Phinn ultimately agreed to reset the trial for Sept. 15 to accommodate High’s schedule, which is currently filled until the last week of August.
Johnson, 37, is charged with attempted murder, assault, felony firearm use, home invasion, reckless endangerment and related firearm violations for allegedly attempting to force his way into a woman’s house on Sept. 20, 2024 while armed.
According to charging documents, the woman opened the door to her residence in the 4100 block of Gladden Avenue after Johnson knocked. She reportedly believed he was her caretaker, who occasionally visited the residence to provide assistance to her and her husband. She later advised Johnson fired one shot at a wall and one in the direction of the woman’s head.
During the rescheduling hearing in reception court, the prosecution offered Johnson an aggregate plea of life, suspending all but 30 years, followed by five years of supervised probation.
Standing in for High, defense attorney Gregory Fischer rejected the deal on behalf of Johnson.
Johnson is slated to return to court Sept. 15 for a jury trial before Judge Lynn S. Mays.
