Attempted Murder Defendant’s Trial Postponed Due to Defense Counsel’s Family Emergency

An attempted murder defendant rejected a plea of 30 years with five years supervised probation after having his scheduled trial postponed on Sept. 2 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Nyeki Glover, 27, is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, reckless endangerment, and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on Sept. 17, 2021.

Glover’s trial was scheduled to begin today before Judge Lynn Stewart Mays, but the prosecution informed the court that Glover’s defense attorney, Koryn High, had a family emergency which resulted in a postponement.

Defense attorney Todd Oppenheim, standing in for High, and Glover rejected a plea of life, suspending all but 30 years with five years supervised probation for first-degree attempted murder; and a concurrent 20 years with the first five years without parole for use of a firearm during a felony violent crime.

Under the plea, the defendant would have to register as a gun offender and stay away from the victim.

Glover’s trial date will be determined in his next hearing scheduled for Sept. 21.
