Attempted Murder Defendant Takes Plea for Shooting Security Guard Outside Playbook Sports Bar and Lounge in 2017

Six and a half years after shooting a security guard outside the Playbook Sports Bar and Lounge, Dimas Osorio-Vasquez was sentenced to 15 years incarceration in accordance with a plea agreement between the prosecution and defense.

The 26-year-old defendant was initially scheduled to begin a jury trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Ausby on June 20, which was postponed to June 21.

Rather than proceed with jury selection on Wednesday, Osorio-Vasquez pleaded guilty to life, suspending all but 15 years, and five years of supervised probation for attempted first-degree murder, a concurrent 15 years for firearm use in a felony violent crime and a concurrent life, suspending all but 15 years, and five years of supervised probation for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

The defendant, who was represented by defense attorney Donald Wright, had also faced charges of first and second-degree assault, and conspiracy to first-degree assault.

According to The Court of Special Appeals, Osorio-Vasquez and his friend had an argument with the bar’s security guard on the 6700 block of German Hill Road on Jan. 15, 2017. The two men left and later returned when Osorio-Vasquez shot the security guard in his right arm and chest.

The defendant’s plea agreement is down from the terms of his initial conviction of 45 years when his first trial was held in 2017, which was overturned in March 2019.
