Two Baltimore men pleaded down from attempted murder to assault and weapon charges on May 10 in connection to a carjacking investigation in June 2022.

Damyus Morris, 21, and Trevon Braxton, 27, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Erik S. Atas where the prosecution presented similar plea offers for each defendant.

Morris, who was represented by his defense attorney, Augustine Okeke, was offered 20 years, suspending 14 years, 11 months and 29 days, with four years of supervised probation for first-degree assault and a concurrent five years for firearm use in a crime of violence. Braxton, who was represented by Roland Brown, was similarly offered 20 years, suspending 14 years, and four years of supervised probation for first-degree assault and a concurrent five years without parole for firearm possession with a felony conviction.

Both co-defendants accepted their respective pleas.

According to court documents, a detective with the Baltimore Police Department was reviewing video surveillance footage from the Wow Tobacco and Grocery store on the 3100 block of W. North Avenue for a carjacking that occurred on June 11, 2022. The footage shows three men completing a drug deal inside the store when the buyer pulls out a handgun and robs the seller and the third man, later identified as Morris.

The alleged armed robber is seen going outside, getting into a 2012 Hyundai Genesis and driving away, but crashes into a 2012 Chrysler Voyager. Braxton is seen on camera shooting at the vehicle before it crashed, with Morris firing additional shots after the crash.

In addition to the counts in his plea, Morris was also facing charges of attempted first and second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person, discharging firearms, minor in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammo. Braxton was also initially charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person, discharging firearms, firearm use in a crime of violence, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammo.
