On June 13, a Baltimore resident charged with committing a murder in 2022 rejected a plea during a reception court hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Darren Williams II, and his defense counsel, Stephanie Salter, rejected the prosecution’s offer of life, suspending all but 30 years for attempted first-degree murder, and a concurrent sentence of 20 years, the first five without parole for the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Williams is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, four counts of possession of a firearm with a felony violent crime, two counts of a loaded handgun in a vehicle, two counts of having a handgun in a vehicle, firing a gun in Baltimore City, and illegal possession of ammunition in connection to an incident on Nov. 24, 2022.
According to court documents, once officers arrived at the scene on the 3000 block of Lyttelton Road, they found multiple shell casings and one live round. Police were able to identify the vehicle involved in the crime, which they believe belonged to the defendant. The vehicle was confiscated shortly after a traffic stop. Officers obtained a search and seizure warrant for the defendant’s car when a weapon was found underneath the front passenger’s seat of the vehicle.
Judge Phinn scheduled the defendant’s hearing for Oct. 10 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Daniels. The trial is expected to last four days.
