Attempted Murder Defendant Pleads Guilty to Assault

On Nov. 3, an attempted murder defendant pleaded guilty to assault before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Anthony Vittoria.

Davon Holmes was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, discharging firearms, and illegal possession of ammo in connection to an incident on Oct. 3, 2021.

According to court documents, officers were called to the 5000 block of Queensberry Avenue for reports of a shooting, where a 29-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot to the upper area of his body.

Holmes, 29, and his defense attorney Roland Harris accepted a plea of 20 years, suspending all but five years with three years supervised probation for first-degree assault. Under the plea, the defendant has to stay away from the victim.

Harris stated that his client has three kids. His third child was born while he was incarcerated. Harris said that his client was remorseful for his mistakes and wanted to put this “mess” behind him.

The victim, however, was having a more challenging time leaving the incident in the past, saying, “Due to getting shot, I lost work,” he explained in his impact statement. “I had to shut down my own business because of this. I’m traumatized.”
