A 20-year-old man accused of attempted murder was denied bail for the third time on Jan. 18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong.
Keyontae Everett was charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm in a violent crime, possession of a firearm as a minor, having a handgun on his person, reckless endangerment, and discharging a firearm within the city.
On Tuesday, Judge Hong listened as the prosecutor informed the court that the defendant was captured on video footage drawing and firing a gun at the alleged victim. She also requested that the defendant be denied bail, as he is an extreme risk to public safety.
Everett’s defense attorney’s, Bradley McFee and Kenneth Man (although not present) argued that the alleged victim walked into a crowd and began shooting. McFee also said Everett never failed to appear for court, he has no record, and if released he will continue to live with his mother along with others in that household. In addition, McFee noted that the defendant is no threat to public safety nor is he a flight risk.
After listening to both counsel’s, Judge Hong denied Everett’s bail.
According to Baltimore Fox, on Sept. 11, 2021, officers were called to the 3400 block of East Lombard Street at approximately 9:34 p.m. for reports of shots being fired, where they found evidence of a shooting, but no victim.
Everett was most recently denied bail in October of 2021.
Shortly after, officers responded to a local hospital after receiving a report that a 37-year-old man, who was suffering from a gunshot wound, walked in seeking treatment.
Everett’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 3.
