A 29-year-old Baltimore man charged with shooting a victim in the head accepted a plea deal on July 5, sentencing him to 30 years in prison before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles M. Blomquist

Devin Segar was charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, and use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection to an incident on July 2, 2019.

Segar accepted the prosecutor’s plea offer of 30 years, suspending all but 15 years, with 5 years of probation for attempted first-degree murder.

Under the plea, Segar will also be required to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family.

Segar was represented by defense attorney John Cox.

“I was hospitalized for 3 years, which resulted in me losing my house,” the victim told Judge Blomquist during her victim impact statement. “I now suffer from PTSD and anxiety.”

According to WBAL TV, on July 2, 2019, around 11 p.m. Segar shot a 33-year-old woman in the back of her head in her home on the 1000 block of Walker Avenue. Police said Segar grabbed a knife and attempted to stab the women in her torso after shooting her.

The victim was able to escape and get help, police said.
