An attempted murder defendant accepted a plea on Aug. 31 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
Defendant Lamont Woods took the plea following a two week postponement requested by the prosecutions to contact witnesses.
Wood, 37, is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use during a felony violent crime, use of an assault weapon, having a handgun on his person, and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on Jan. 21, 2019.
The prosecutor presented a plea of 10 years, the first five years without parole, for using a firearm during a felony violent crime; and a consecutive 20 years, suspending all but five years, for first-degree assault. The defendant’s sentence also included five years of supervised probation upon release.
Under the plea, the defendant must undergo mental health treatment and screening, register as a gun offender, and stay away from the victim.
Woods’s defense attorney Andrea Jaskulsky informed the court that her client had already been evaluated for competency and not criminally responsible (NCR); however, he was found responsible and competent to stand trial.
